Postby Mallow415 » Sat Feb 04, 2012 10:05 am

Well i got a project that im putting together for my wife! Its a cj5 and it is set up with a small block chev and has a t4 with dana 300 case. I was wanting to put a auto in it i know they make a turbo 350 conv. but i was thinking of putting a powerglide to it? Will it work and whats involved i have lots of powerglide stuff does it need to be a shorty or what?

Yeah, they're out there. Here's one option.

If you end up with an auto in the Jeep, might the t4 be for sale? ;)

What's the rest of the combo? I'm probably against the grain here, but is there any reason you want to use a powerglide and not a th350?

I just have a bunch of powerglide stuff and if i ever wanted my wife to race it I could put a brake in it? Just a thought?

Just wondered. I've always been told you needed x amount of HP with x amount of weight to make the powerglide work effectively. And if it sees any other use (street duty/etc.), the impression I've always gotten was that glides suck for that stuff (low speed driving that is).
I stick with a 3 speed for that reason alone. I street drive a lot, dune it, drag it. Not sure a powerglide would work in my application.

Jeff Richardson has one in his jeep up here that he drives on the street and trail rides it. He made the stuff to run it himself and I think he likes it.

Don't quote me on this, but I think Jeff took his glide out after he exploded it, and went to a th350. Alot lower gear ratio for stop signs, and low speed stuff in the woods. You can put a brake in the 350 also.
Nitorus is like a sl#t.... you wanna hit it but you're afraid of the consequences.

This is basically what I've always heard. Glides suck bad for stop and go stuff (for obvious reasons). Down the road 55MPH stuff was fine because you're still at the same final ratio, but low speed driving was not good. I'd be interested in hearing if he liked it though. I would have thought trail riding with a glide would be a nightmare.

I know that a 350 might be the better choice just looking for options? Thanks Guys!
