On a shorty we run the gear right on the slip yoke. We shorten the yoke and get the gear as close to the shorty cover as possible. On a long tail this would probably put too much side loading on the shaft. We run double 50 and haven't had a problem. but we also have small front tires.

Thats how mine is set up. The gear is welded onto the slip yoke then yoke goes through pillow block then into trans. I havent broke anything, just tyrin to get it figured out. I think i am going to try 2wd next week at brookville and see what it does. right on the verge of 3.9's and thought i would try it not bound up and see what it will do.

You don't understand ,we do not use a bearing behind the trans at all , we only have the bushing or bearing in the shorty cover!!
