Trike Project

Postby Sebastian Lindau » Sun Oct 30, 2011 9:28 am

Hi!

Here I would like to introduce my trike project. It's based on a 1987 Yamaha FZR 1000. Unfortunatelly I got no pictures from the very first steps of the project but there's not so much modified until now - so I think it's easy to comprehensible what's happened. I'll post pictures again and again to let you know the latest during the construction. Feel free to make comments or suggestions.

The rear end becomes later the aircontainer for the shifter also and gets some upper and lower struts made of steeltubes. I will also construct a new bench for a lower and more relevant driving position.

This little piece is two in one. It becomes the support for the lower rear end struts and it is also one of the supports for the later mounted wheeliebar.

This becomes one of two supports for the exhaust.

To be continued...

Hi!

Unfortunatelly there is no place to race in Germany - because sand drag racing don't exist here until now. But if the project is finished, I hope that I can find some mates they're want to build their own ride to race together. Someone has to start with it...
When I was in the german army I was stationed near Würzburg - that's only 40 miles away from Erlangen. The world is small...

Best regards, Sebastian

Buiding off and old yamaha FZR i see. Fun bike. I was out riding on mine sunday, a little cold but ok, started out rolling and simply twisted into it. Ended up spinning the tire then it decided to pick up the front. I'll be following your build, looks good so far.
I'm not say let's go kill all the stupid people..... I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

Hi!

Yesterday I finished the exhaust supports. It was a lot of adaptable work but finally it fits very well.

Image
The two supports prepared for welding....

...the complete welded exhausts for the left and for the right side...

Image
...and finally the mounted exhaust (in this case the left one) from the front...

...and from the side.

I think those are just a standard spindle mount 4" buggy rim.
