Here's a tech sheet. Sorry, I didn't race this year so my daughter made up a tech sheet for me. But it's somewhat straightforward.

I've also accumulated most of the faster times for the classes at Gravelrama this year and made a graph of them vs the class factor. I think that would help put the indexes together. It looks to be about a 0.2 spread between classes for the majority of the classes after doing a curve fit.

I haven't forgot about this. I just haven't had much time to put into it.

But here is what I have done. I gathered all the quickest times from this past Gravelrama from each class (mostly the first or 2nd place winners). I then graphed them according to their minimum class factor. I did adjust the class factor for the XA and XXA, because using 0.0 didn't make much sense. I know our car factors around 2.0 so I used that and a 1.9 for the XA car. Anyway, here is what the graph looks like:

Image

Basically that's a curve fit equation of et vs class factor. Or in simpler terms, the ET a vehicle should run for its class factor. The thing that's important about this is the slope of the line (0.1811). For my idea I drop the 2.828 because that isn't necessrary. What that says is for every point of class factor, there should be a 0.1811 second difference in ET. That made sense from the classes I know a lot about. Simply put, about 0.2 sec. difference between the upper classes that are only spread apart by 1.1 pt. I actually never realized the lower classes had a bigger spread. I learn something new every day.

So here is my idea. I'd like to see a race where people fill out a their full tech sheet and determine their class factor just like any normal EC style race. After that class factor is determined, that number is multiplied by 0.1811. That result is your dial-in. This puts everybody racing everybody. Not just individual classes. This helps the dwindling EC class sizes.

Example:
Vehicle Weight = 2800 lbs
Total points = 415
Class Factor = 2800 / 415 = 6.75

Normally a 6.75 class factor would land you in XD class. Not in this scenario. Your dial-in would be 6.75*.1811 = 1.22 sec.

Your opponent:
Vehicle Weight = 3550 lbs
Total Points = 375
Class Factor = 3550 / 375 = 9.47. Your opponents dial-in would be 9.47*.1811 = 1.72.

When the two of you pair up your opponent would be dialed at a 1.72 to your 1.22. That means he gets a 0.5 sec head start on the tree. Obviously, there would be no way to break-out, so it's truly who is the best on the tree and has the best vehicle to determine the winner.

I'd be curious to get people's opinions on this or questions. If I could get enough interest in this and polish up the rough edges, I may try to host a race like this next year.

This is my thinking Ryan.

I'd like to give the 2015 Gravelrama 1st and 2nd place winners first dibs. The first 32 that want in are entered. No double entered cars or drivers. $100 entry fee. If we can't fill it with those racers, we open up the remaining spots to first come, first serve.

I'd like to see it happen at the first Cleves race in May. Weigh-In on Friday. First round Friday night. The other 4 rounds complete on Saturday. $3200 seems like a good payout for only 5 rounds of racing. I think you could pay Winner, Runner-Up, and Semis a decent amount with that kind of purse.

Not this year you won't.

That's the plan. Get these 1 run per year engines out early and run them!

I've got some work to do, but I would really like to make this happen. I think it could be one of the best shows we've seen in a while.
